A Handheld XRF “Soil Gun” for Efficient Contaminated Soil Profiling
Handheld XRF guns have become the instrument of choice for soils analysis when characterizing, remediating and monitoring contaminated soil sites. With just 30-60 seconds per sample, fast, accurate data can be obtained in hours rather than weeks, ensuring that your project meets its deadline and does not go over budget. XRF is nondestructive. Sampling density is the key factor in profiling contamination. Best practice includes sending 5% of these very same samples analyzed with the XRF in the field to the lab for confirmation.
Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) analysis allows rapid detection of ultra trace elements down to sub-ppb (µg/l) concentrations. TXRF is well established at universities and environmental research centers for numerous applications like:
· Studies of metal accumulation in biofilms and plankton as longterm indicator for pollution.
· Investigation of entry, distribution and accumulation of nanoparticles.
· Monitoring of "new" element compositions in modern technical products (Tl, rare earth elements)
· (Longterm) studies identifying correlations between metal contanimations and diseases like Parkinson or Alzheimer.
· Aerosol analysis after short-term impactor sampling.
While the advanced TXRF spectrometer S4 T-STAR provides superior performance in the laboratory, the S2 PICOFOX is a compact spectrometer dedicated for field analysis onsite.
