Forensics
M4 TORNADO is the tool of choice for sample characterization using small-spot Micro X-ray Fluorescence (Micro-XRF) for information on composition and element distribution. Optimized for analysis speed and without compromising accuracy it measures a wide range of samples. Whether small or large, even or irregularly shaped — equipped with a large high-speed stage it supports 2D analysis of virtually any kind of inorganic, organic ,and even of liquid sample. Its large vacuum chamber enables light element detection. The M4 TORNADO application include: Analysis of banknotes,Gun Shot Residue – Elements of interest,Identification of fakes of gems.
SMARTTECH has been conducting research about application of 3D scanning technology in forensics and criminology recently. The study was conducted in January at a temperature of -3 ° C. At first, a snowy trail was covered with a thin layer of dry powder, thus preventing reflections of light.
The single-measurement method was used to do six scans from different perspectives. SMARTTECH3Dmeasure v2017 software provided accurate data in the form of point cloud.
Additionally, the resulting scans in the form of a model can be added to the database and compared with other foot impressions around the world, even if the crime scene is no longer available. If you need physical imprints, then 3D printing based on a pre-made model will not only ensure a precision that surpasses traditional methods, but also allows you to copy the imprint without exposing the imprint itself. In addition, 3D printing can be used for creating a visualization of the proof. SMARTTECH together with Canon presented complete solution at EUROPOLTECH 2017 fair.
Cultural heritage
Archaeometry—also known as archaeological science—is the application of scientific methods and techniques to archeological investigation. The field of archaeometry has been quickly expanding and adopting new methodology over the last several decades, as the sophistication and availability of technology and instrumentation grow, while the cost of scientific analysis has been slowly but surely dropping. Many scientific instruments that produce data such as molecular or elemental composition, chromatography, carbon dating, etc. have become smaller, more portable, faster, and have a lower cost per sample.
Bruker's TRACER 5 family of XRF analyzers is the de facto standard for XRF as applied archeological science with a presence in over 500 universities worldwide. Bruker workshops prepare hundreds of scientists, archeologists, and conservators annually to properly collect, interpret, and use XRF data, you can count on being able to compare data sets with colleagues when using the Tracer.
Skilled and knowledgeable conservation scientists in leading museums, institutes and universities around the world use the ELIO to help research, authenticate, interpret and preserve natural objects and artifacts of artistic, cultural or historical significance. The ELIO helps determine material, chemical and technical aspects of cultural objects for preservation of highly valued and priceless, but complex samples.
Qualitative, semi-quantitative, comparative and elemental distribution map analyses with the ELIO are performed on diverse materials including architecture, furniture, adornments, sculptures, textiles and manuscripts.
